INTRODUCTION In latest years more than a few issues pertinent to the expansion of nursing information have been addressed. These comprise of uncovering experiences considered innermost to nursing and the nursing theories and models that have stemmed from them (Meleis 1997, Fawcett 1993, 1995, Chinn & Kramer 1995). Caring as an imperative perception within nursing is gaining increasing concentration in the text (Kyle 1995, Lea & Watson 1996, Mc Cance et al. Additionally, a variety of theories have been offered in the prose, which have caring as a vital thought and are based on a human knowledge point of view. These embrace Leininger’s (1991) Theory of Culture Care, Watson’s (1985) Theory of Human Caring, Boykin & Schoenhofer’s (1993) Theory of Nursing as Caring and Roach’s (1984) theory on caring. However, it is the intention within this paper to explain the theory of caring in nursing as in a form that focuses in the concept of transpersonal, humanity and caring health care providers.
Discuss Leininger’s transcultural nursing theory. Define the key concepts, assumptions, and considerations inherent in the theory. Taylor (1903) defined culture as “that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.” Clifford Geertz's (1973) culture definition was “the fabric of meaning in terms of which human beings interpret their experience and guide their action.” In 1990, Richard Fox went on to say that culture was “a set of understandings and a consciousness under active construction by which individuals interpret the world around them..a tool kit or set of scenarios that individuals use to implement or to stage their daily life” (Vandenberg, 2010, p. However defined, culture has the power The purpose of this paper is to define Leininger's Transcultural Nursing theory. In doing so, the reader will be able to properly individualize patient care plans based on the patient’s cultural needs and thus provide adequate nursing care. The initiating factor for Leininger's transcultural theory is that caring processes, expressions and patterns vary for each culture; this is the main theme of her theory (Potter et al., 2013, p. Nurses need to identify and implement the patient’s culture into all aspects of nursing care to improve client cooperation, effectiveness, and outcomes (Potter et al., 2013, p. The Culture Care Diversity and Universality Theory, or Transcultural Nursing Theory, has a model called the Sunrise Enabler to Discover Culture Care, or Sunrise Model, which includes the following cultural influential factors: Technological; Religious and philosophical; Kinship and social; Cultural values, beliefs, and life ways; Political and legal; Economic; Educational (Sagar, 2012, p. They are significant to nursing practice, education and scientific research because they help to determine, what is already known, and what additional knowledge and skills are needed. The Nursing Theory Page simply links pages built and maintained by others who have knowledge about a theory. Unfortunately, we haven't yet found or created an Internet presence for some theorists. If you would like to contribute a page, but haven't yet built a web page, that barrier can be overcome. We have had mail from nurses looking for websites for Dorothy Johnson and Marilyn Friedman's Family Nursing Model. Pages for Joyce Travelbee and Joyce Fitzpatrick are under construction. If you are knowledgeable about a theory and would like to create and maintain a page, please contact us to discuss your ideas. If you know of a website that we should link, please let us know.

Discuss this statement in reference to Leininger's Tanscultural Theory of Nursing and the Cultural Safety Model. Neither does it reflect Ramsden's ideas of cultural safety. Leininger is an American nursing theorist whose approach is from a dominant culture and is based upon an anthropological viewpoint. When it comes to optimizing nursing care the above statement does not reflect Leininger's Theory of Transcultural Care which emphasises that appropriate regard is given to the cultural differences existing between Maori and Pakeha. To begin, let us consider Leininger's Transcultural model. In American society, the cultural diversity is enormous. Her work is an attempt to increase nursing effectiveness within this multicultural environment, whilst at the same time recognising that the provision and source of medical care originates from the more dominant Western culture. Nurses are encouraged to become educated about a wide variety of cultural beliefs and sensitivities; and specifically, to identify those aspects that are relevant to the context of nursing care.

Available: Menu Categories/ANAMarketplace/ANAPeriodicals/OJIN/Tableof Contents/Volume62001/No2May01/Holistic Nursing Key words: holistic nursing, standards of practice, complementary/alternative modalities Introduction As nurses consider their role in the movement toward complementary modalities and integrative care, it is also useful for them to examine the standards of practice of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA). This article reviews the development of the practice standards, and presents the philosophies and values which underpin holistic nursing. The AHNA is a national nursing organization committed to bringing holism, compassion, science, and creativity to nursing practice with a stated mission "to unite nurses in healing" ( The AHNA Standards of Holistic Nursing Practice (hereafter called the Standards) provide guidance for nursing care that meets the intent of the description of holistic nursing -- "care . has enhancement of healing the whole person (from birth to death) as its goal (AHNA, 1992/1998)." The Standards grew from an interest in describing holistic nursing, and in articulating the values, knowledge, and skills required for its practice. Certification in the speciality is awarded through the American's Holistic Nurses' Certification Corporation (AHNCC) to nurses able to demonstrate knowledge and skills described in the Standards. The Standards represent practice of a nursing speciality, but unlike speciality practice defined by a client group (pediatric nursing) or a disease category (oncology nursing), holistic nursing is practiced by nurses in virtually every area of care. The relationship between holistic nursing practice and complementary and alternative modalities is discussed. The speciality is based on practice that recognizes the body-mind-spirit connection of persons, and demands its practitioners integrate self-care and self-responsibility into their own lives. Precisely because holistic nursing recognizes the body-mind-spirit connection of persons, holistic nurses often practice complementary/alternative modalities. In a 1996 study of 708 nurses who identified themselves as holistic nurses, researchers found that a majority of the nurses defined their practice in relation to modalities practiced (Dossey, Frisch, Forker & Lavin, 1998). The complementary/alternative modalities provide these nurses with a means to treat the body (biofeedback, therapeutic massage), relieve the mind (humor, imagery, meditation), comfort the soul (prayer), and support significant interpersonal interaction (healing presence). Holistic nurses have been interested in complementary/alternative modalities for over two decades, evidenced by the fact that of the early work published in holistic nursing (reprinted in the first compilation of historical writings on the topic) includes 41 scholarly papers addressing specific modalities and their use in practice (Clements & Martin, 1989).
To relate the empathy with the Theory of the Human Care, from Jean Watson, in the current context of Nursing. Methods Theoretical and reflective essay that proposes a discussion about empathy and its relation with the theory of the human care. Results It is presented the Clinical Caritas process and each element of care. Nursing theories are the support of nursing practice today. They are significant to nursing practice, education and scientific research because they help to determine, what is already known, and what additional knowledge and skills are needed. Nurses are usually first exposed to nursing theories during nursing education and further exposure comes from hands on training. The gained knowledge, about nursing theories, through education and training enhances better outcomes for patients and caregivers, allows application of professional boundaries, and assists in decision making. In this paper I will attempt to analyze, in general, the importance of nursing theory to the nursing profession; discuss middle-range theory, furthermore Benner’s model of skill acquisition, and how this theory addresses nursing’s metaparadigm; and how this theory views nursing education. Over the past century, nursing made remarkable accomplishment that has led to the recognition of nursing as an academic discipline and as a profession. Essential in this journey, has been both, the belief that nursing must raise the nature of its work and that nursing is different from medicine, but similarly worthy of professional status. While there is no general agreement as to what establishes correct features of a profession, the following features are frequently distinguished: “a unique body of knowledge, altruistic service to society, a code of ethics, significant education and socialization, and autonomy in practice, i.e.
