EMBASE is a Major International Biomedical and Pharmaceutical database that contains over 19 million indexed records from 1974 to date, and has an overlap of titles with MEDLINE; EMBASE has been referred to as the European MEDLINE. The database offers its own life science thesaurus called EMTREE. Web of Science searches thousands of journals in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. A unique feature of Web of Science is the ability to see which articles have cited a given article. Web of Science offers the ability to search many databases simultaneously, including Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, and several others. A comprehensive abstract & citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books & conference proceedings. It can also be used by researchers to determine the impact of specific authors, articles/documents and journals. The database includes more than 153,000 theses and dissertations in total, including 70,000 new citations for theses and dissertations.

To be presented, with the permission of the Medical Faculty of the. University of Helsinki, for public discussion in the Sophie Mannerheim. Auditorium of the. The objective of this project is to develop patient dose-response models and to provide an adequate drug administration regimen for anaesthesia to avoid under- or over-dosing of patients. The controllers are designed to compensate for patients’ inherent drug response variability, to achieve the best output disturbance rejection, and to maintain optimal set point response. To address this issue, this project uses four independent methods to investigate the control strategies for the regulation of hypnosis. Two medications are used in a thorough evaluation and comparison of controller performance. A robust internal model controller (RIMC) based on the Bispectral Index (BIS) is investigated firstly. The controller compares the measured BIS with its input reference to provide the expected Propofol concentration, and then the controller manipulates the anaesthetic Propofol concentration entering the anaesthetic system to achieve the desired BIS value. This study also develops patient dose-response models. The performance of the RIMC is comprehensively compared with that of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for the robustness, set-point changes, disturbances and noise in the measured BIS.

Responding to the growing demand for undergraduate and postgraduate education, the Department was moved to its new location at the Kútvölgyi Clinical Block in 1997, enabling research, education and advanced patient care. During the first six years, Szent János Hospital’s central intensive care unit (ICU) had been the basis of the rapidly evolving Department. Background The Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy was established in 1991, with Professor István Pénzes as the first head of the new department. In 2007, Professor János Gál started to restructure the institution, reorganising and centralising anaesthesia care at the University, increasing the number of ICU beds, amplifying its profile, reorganising management, and having the Department become ISO-certified. Profile As a university department, the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy takes part in the university’s classic three-fold mission: education, research and health care. The main profiles of the Department include respiratory failure, conventional and novel ventilatory support, sepsis and septic shock, ischemia/reperfusion, myocardium protection, intensive care-related genetics, peripartum bleeding disorders and various cases of anaesthesia (e.g. cardiac, orthopaedic, gynaecological, obstetric, paediatric and neonatal anaesthesia). Due to its role in providing progressive professional backup for intensive care and anaesthesia units in Budapest and in the region, the Department provides therapy for patients with even the most complicated cases of cardiac, obstetric, postoperative, haematological and metabolic disorders.
Development of an Automated Anesthesia. System for the Stabilization of Physiological. Parameters in Rodents. A Thesis. Submitted to the Faculty of the. WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the. Degree of Master of Science by. ______. We propose an augmented reality system to automatically identify lumbar vertebral levels and the lamina region in ultrasound-guided epidural anesthesia. Spinal needle insertion procedures require careful placement of a needle, both to ensure effective therapy delivery and to avoid damaging sensitive tissue such as the spinal cord. An important step in such procedures is the accurate identification of the vertebral levels, which is currently performed using manual palpation with a reported success rate of only 30%. In this thesis, we propose a system using a trinocular camera which tracks an ultrasound transducer during the acquisition of a sequence of B-mode images. The system generates a panorama ultrasound image of the lumbar spine, automatically identifies the lumbar levels in the panorama image, and overlays the identified levels on a live camera view of the patient’s back.

Review this JMPT article titled: Evidence-Based Guidelines for the Chiropractic Treatment of Adults With Headache and another guideline from the Guidelines Development Committee titled: Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Headache Disorders in Adults ) forces the suboccipital muscles to remain in constant contraction as they elevate the chin, and this puts pressure on the 3 suboccipital nerves. This nerve compression may cause headaches at the base of the skull, and can also mimic sinus (frontal) headaches. Evidence suggests that chiropractic care, including spinal manipulation, improves migraine and cervicogenic headaches. The type, frequency, dosage, and duration of treatment(s) should be based on guideline recommendations, clinical experience, and findings. Evidence for the use of spinal manipulation as an isolated intervention for patients with tension-type headache remains equivocal.

Welcome to Bain & Company’s third annual Global Healthcare Private Equity Report, our review of the significant trends of the past year and a look at some of the most compelling prospects for private equity investors in the healthcare sector in 2014. Healthcare continues to be an attractive area for private equity investment as the landscape evolves. Similar to 2012, several factors constrained mega-deal activity in healthcare, led by stiff competition from strategic buyers and rich valuations. Despite some dampening in investment activity, these trends had the welcome consequence of creating a robust exit environment. The number of portfolio company exits hit a 10-year high in 2013, with the majority going to strategic players and several making sizable IPOs. When funds made large investments in 2013, they spread them fairly evenly across sectors, unlike the clustering of $1 billion-plus deals seen in the provider and services space in 2012. The biggest concentration of these large deals was in the pharma sector, including both traditional pharmaceutical assets and service organizations like contract outsource organizations (CXOs). The provider and services sector also remained strong around the globe and was especially popular in emerging markets such as India and Southeast Asia.
