The dreaded exams, essays, and details required make the admissions process a grueling one. And there’s always one question that students find is the hardest: “Why us? ” We asked some students from UPenn to tell us their best strategies to tackle that difficult question:penn120: “Everyone applying to a liberal arts college is going to be thinking the same, relatively broad thing: I like the balance of courses and I don’t know what I want to do yet so I want to take a variety of classes. Think about why you are applying to the school in the first place, and brainstorm, choosing a few ideas that you can elaborate on in an essay.

Course Description. Writing the University Application Essay - Online WUAE Online is an online writing course intended for international freshman applicants to US. Mary Shelley's waking nightmare on June 16, 1816, inspired one of the most powerful horror stories of Western civilization. It can claim the status of a myth, so profoundly resonant in its implications for our comprehension of our selves and our place in the world that it has become, at least in its barest outline, a trope of everyday life. Of course, both the media and the average person in the street have mistakenly assigned the name of Frankenstein not to the maker of the monster but to his creature. But as we shall see, this "mistake" actually derives from an intuitively correct reading of the novel. Frankenstein is our culture's most penetrating literary analysis of the psychology of modern "scientific" man, of the dangers inherent in scientific research, and of the exploitation of nature and of the female implicit in a technological society. So deeply does it probe the collective cultural psyche of the modern era that it deserves to be called a myth, on a par with the most telling stories of Greek and Norse gods and goddesses. But Mary Shelley's myth is unique, both in content and in origin. Frankenstein invents the story of a man's single-handed creation of a living being from dead matter.

Feb 7, 2013. The Common Application Board of Directors announced that students would no longer have the coveted “open-ended” essay option, but instead have to choose from. Recently, Eric J. Furda, dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania, gave me a refreshingly honest take on the value of essays. The admissions process at Penn Law is highly selective. Last year, we received over 5,600 applications for the approximately 240 places in the first year class. Students who apply to Penn Law come from every state in the nation, from many countries around the world, from more than 200 undergraduate institutions, and from a broad range of academic, ethnic, cultural, professional, and economic backgrounds. There is no pre-law educational requirement or even a specific recommended course of study for admission to Penn Law. Strength of character, breadth of knowledge, and intellectual maturity constitute the base upon which our legal education builds.
So I think a couple other people had this issue. My essay was done well in advance, and I submitted my "overall app" before the deadline no biggie. .” In the mouths of other teenagers, this would be a rather ingenious way to skirt carrying a week’s supply of used water bottles down to the recycling bin. But I have no false pretenses: to me, these bottles are art, and I am their curator. From the classic verdant green of the San Pellegrino bottle to the hip black and white photographs (taken by actual consumers) that adorn Jones sodas, I know and love them all. That said, my current favorite art piece is a bottle of Voss, an intimidatingly professional cylinder of artesian water resembling a hydraulic messengering system canister. I’ve always paid close attention to these objects, in the way a passionate fashion student might study up on . Not entirely coincidentally, I’m a fiend for such magazines too.

This has the added advantage of giving you a first "review" of the material, and letting you catch areas of confusion right away so you can ask about them in the next class session.
