Art Formal Analysis Examining the formal qualities of Homer Watson’s painting Horse and Rider In A Landscape was quite interesting. I chose to analyze this piece as apposed to the others because it was the piece I liked the least, therefore making me analyze it more closely and discover other aspects of the work, besides aesthetics. The texture of the canvas works very well with the subject matter portrayed in the painting. The grassy hill side and the leaves of the trees are especially complimented by the canvas. It makes the leaves feel like they are slightly moving, this combined with the lack of detail itself the leaves. At first sight the house in the middle ground appears to be the destination of the rider, but the use of linear perspective suggests that something else is important beyond the house and the green hill. This is contrasted nicely with the very detailed renderings of the trunks and branches of the trees, the Perspective lines occur also in the background of the painting in the upper right in the trees getting smaller as they descend into the painting. This painting appears to take place either at either dusk or dawn, when the sun is at the horizon. Likely it is dusk, as the setting appears to be in the Northern Hemisphere and the snow in the picture residing on the left hand side of fence would suggest it has yet to melt, so the sun would be setting in the west, or on the right. So the viewer, as well as the subject, is facing south. The lighting is very dramatic, the middle ground being very much more lighted than the foreground and background, therefore the colors are more saturated than the foreground and background.

A person might be seeking the optimal or "perfect" solution upfront, and fear making any decision which could lead to erroneous results, while on the way to a better solution. On the opposite end of the time spectrum is the phrase extinct by instinct, which is making a fatal decision based on hasty judgment or a gut reaction. The phrase "analysis paralysis" describes a situation in which the opportunity cost of decision analysis exceeds the benefits that could be gained by enacting some decision, or an informal or non-deterministic situation where the sheer quantity of analysis overwhelms the decision-making process itself, thus preventing a decision.

Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a work. Themes are usually implied rather than explicitly stated. Deep thematic content is not required in a work, but the great majority of works have some kind of thematic content, not always intended by the author. Analysis of changes (or implied change) in dynamic characteristics of the work can provide insight into a particular theme. For example, the subject of Star Wars is "the battle for control of the galaxy between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance". The themes explored in the films might be "moral ambiguity" or "the conflict between technology and nature". Themes differ from motifs in the visual arts in that themes are ideas conveyed by the visual experience as a whole, while motifs are elements of the content. In the same way, a literary story with repeated symbolism related to chess does not make the story's theme the similarity of life to chess.

Created by Ellie Pinz Studio Two types of syntheses Standards for synthesis essays How to write synthesis essays Techniques for developing synthesis essays Thesis statements, introductions, conclusions, and quotations WHAT IS A SYNTHESIS? A synthesis is a written discussion that draws on one or more sources. It follows that your ability to write syntheses depends on your ability to infer relationships among sources - essays, articles, fiction, and also nonwritten sources, such as lectures, interviews, observations. This process is nothing new for you, since you infer relationships all the time - say, between something you've read in the newspaper and something you've seen for yourself, or between the teaching styles of your favorite and least favorite instructors. In fact, if you've written research papers, you've already written syntheses. In an academic synthesis, you make explicit the relationships that you have inferred among separate sources. The skills you've already been practicing in this course will be vital in writing syntheses. Clearly, before you're in a position to draw relationships between two or more sources, you must understand what those sources say; in other words, you must be able to summarize these sources.

Mathematical logic is a subfield of mathematics exploring the applications of formal logic to mathematics. It bears close connections to metamathematics, the foundations of mathematics, and theoretical computer science. The unifying themes in mathematical logic include the study of the expressive power of formal systems and the deductive power of formal proof systems. Mathematical logic is often divided into the fields of set theory, model theory, recursion theory, and proof theory. These areas share basic results on logic, particularly first-order logic, and definability. In computer science (particularly in the ACM Classification) mathematical logic encompasses additional topics not detailed in this article; see Logic in computer science for those. Since its inception, mathematical logic has both contributed to, and has been motivated by, the study of foundations of mathematics. This study began in the late 19th century with the development of axiomatic frameworks for geometry, arithmetic, and analysis.

Each branch should be, in Madison's opinion, mostly independent. To assure such independence, no one branch should have too much power in selecting members of the other two branches. If this principle were strictly followed, it would mean that the citizens should select the president, the legislators, and the judges. Most of the time, when you are writing an essay about a book or article you've read for a class, you will be expected to write in a professional and impersonal voice. But the regular rules change a bit when you write a response paper. A response (or reaction) paper differs from the formal review primarily in that it is written in the first person. Unlike in more formal writing, the use of phrases like "I thought" and "I believe" is encouraged in a response paper. In a response paper, you will still need to write a formal assessment of the work you're observing (this could be a film, a work of art, or a book), but you will also add your own personal reaction and impressions to the report. The steps for completing a reaction or response paper are: Once you have established an outline for your paper, you'll need to craft the first draft of an essay using all the basic elements found in any strong essay, including a strong introductory sentence. In the case of a reaction paper, the first sentence should contain both the title of the object to which you are responding, and the name of the author. The last sentence of your introductory paragraph should contain a thesis statement.

Three big windows behind them show the landscape outside. In the painting, Jesus Christ and his twelve apostles are sitting together and having supper behind a long table in a dining hall. This painting is one of the most famous paintings in the world because of the simplification of lines and the skillful composition that make Jesus Christ as the focal point. There are two different types of line in this painting: straight lines and curves. The borderlines of ceiling, top of the doors and windows and table are straight, while the borderlines of characters are curved. Also the color contrast between characters and background is worthy talking: all the thirteen characters are wearing very colorful and bright clothes, but the color of ceiling and doors is very dark, which is similar to a dark yellow and grey; the color of tablecloth is white and very bright, which forms a high contrasting to those colorful and dark colors on characters' clothes and the ceiling and doors. What is more, the contrast between geometrical shapes and organic shapes is very obvious: all the tables, doors, windows and ceiling form geometrical shapes like rectangle; while the figures and food, containers on the table are in organic shapes that are very natural and represent the original shapes of those objects. The composition of this painting is the most remarkable element.
